Public Gardens Studio
Philosophy
The Public Garden Studio is committed to forming relationships with mission-driven horticultural organizations to explore the full potential of these unmatched community resources. We believe in the importance of public gardens to a community and individual quality of life, both in the short term and as legacies for the future. We approach gardens as unique human artifacts and sensory environments. They possess diverse characteristics, experiential qualities, and cultural purposes. Our work identifies, explores, and expresses what a garden is and can be within the specific identity, site, and resources of each client.
Approach
Public Garden projects mandate exceptional levels of creativity, multi-disciplinary collaboration, extensive group participation, and concern for functionality. We bring to each collaboration a rich knowledge of the unique contexts – possibilities, opportunities, and challenges – in which public gardens exist and operate. Our team has extensive leadership experience in all aspects of public garden planning and design, including a familiarity with how horticultural, aesthetic, programmatic, and operational issues influence the physical property and vice-versa.
