Parks Studio

Philosophy

Public parks celebrate civic pride and the spirit of the communities they serve. When designed with regard for the environment and the human experience, parks offer a healthy outlet for family communication, festivals, sports, and passive recreation. MESA's Parks Studio believes that inspiring outdoor spaces are vital components of thriving communities and cities. Well designed projects become city landmarks and travel destinations regardless of size. The Parks Studio draws on the site's history and context to create a memorable and engaging outdoor experience that becomes part of daily living... a place to read the newspaper, take a walk with a child, or listen to a band. Good parks enrich our lives.

Approach

MESA’s Parks Studio uses a multi-layered system of determinants to study each site. In addition to natural systems, it looks at existing urban and rural patterns within a project setting and the cultural preferences of surrounding neighborhoods and communities. In heavily populated areas, the Studio looks for cross programming opportunities with school campuses, cultural facilities, regional trail networks, and mass transit facilities.
